Olive Oil Factory has All Love for Enercon Induction Sealers
Key to successful co-packing is equipping your lines with versatile equipment that can handle all types of products and packaging requirements. The family-owned Olive Oil Factory (OOF) are experts at this. In 2003, they began producing distinctive and flavorful olive oils and vinegars. Their operations have evolved into producing, co-packing and private labeling a wide range of products including oils, vinegars, dressings, sauces, jams, jellies, and drizzlers in dozens of packaging configurations.
For induction cap sealing, the company relies on Enercon Super Seal™ cap sealers. The equipment creates hermetic seals to prevent product leaks, provide tamper evidence and ensure product freshness. “For our products packed in HDPE or PET containers, we found induction sealing to be cost effective and easy to apply tamper evidence consistently,” says Bogdan Sudjian, Senior Operations Manager at OOF.
Spouting Off Application Expertise
Having induction sealing capabilities has been an important part of OOF’s growth. “Some of our customers request induction sealing for their products, so it has opened the door to business we wouldn’t have without induction sealing capabilities,” says Sudjian.
Of course, not all sealing applications are created the same. Sealing jars with flat continuous thread caps is fairly straightforward. However, when you need to seal an HDPE BBQ sauce squeeze bottle with a specialty spouted cap, you need to make sure you have the right equipment for the application. And that’s an area where Enercon excels.
Bogdan says, “Enercon has always been a pleasure to work with. Anytime we’ve needed a machine or new sealing head, they have delivered with a surprisingly quick turnaround.”
The challenge in sealing a spouted cap versus a flat cap is that the foil liner is recessed from the top of the cap. And since an induction field’s strength diminishes over distance, sealing energy can be wasted if it travels too far to reach the liner. The solution is one of Enercon’s tunnel sealing head designs that redirects the induction field to approach the liner from the sides, which enables a stronger induction field intersecting the liner. Enercon has several tunnel designs from narrow to deep to custom tunnels to handle every application imaginable, and that includes the need for increased sealing capacity.
More Sealers for Packaging Line Growth
As OOF continues to grow, they are adding faster lines and will soon start-up their fourth Enercon induction sealer: a Super Seal™ Max.
The Super Seal™ Max is the most powerful sealer available and it offers several touchscreen-enabled features, such as recipe management, that make it easy to use for operators. “We like the simple controls, it makes it easy to train our operators. Enercon sealers can save different programs, which makes start up much quicker than doing the full setup procedure each time,” says Bogdan.
The advanced sealer will also provide The Olive Oil Factory with container & foil counts, descriptive fault information, troubleshooting support, and safety features including stalled bottle detection which turns the sealer off in the event that a container stalls under the sealing head. And if the company’s sealing needs evolve, they can simply contact Enercon for a free lab trial and access to additional sealing head designs optimized for their new applications.
